Stan, Stan the scarecrow man
Kia Ora family and whānau,
About a month ago we set out a bit of an idea of what we could do to enter the Ashburton A&P show. There were 3 different categories so we choose to go with “recycle, reuse” and thought a scarecrow could be a good idea with Ashburton being a farming community.
We wrote a bit of a list of the things we may need and send out a community post encouraging contributions to reuse clothing that our tamariki may have grown out of.
With these items we sat with the children to get an idea of what they want to include and what they wanted it to look like.
We needed a name and Stan was the favourite. Caleb wanted Stan to have a mullet and overalls. Isla suggested a bow or a bow tie for a boy, Jack suggested arms and Blaine thought the scarecrow needed a tool like a farmer. From there on Stan evolved.

Although we don’t have a spare tool for him we found an old seed packet in the garage that we snuck in. Stan is using a pot of potatoes as a stand which the children planted 6 weeks ago.

Although Stan is not finished, we are on the right path and wanted to share this with you all. We will be entering a college of photos of how our Stan
