Sustainability journey - part 2

Tamariki in our Rākau room have been engaging in new project work. This is where we work together to achieve a goal or engage in a topic of learning over a series of days, weeks or even months.
This project was inspired by the donation of empty cardboard boxes. Through conversation as a class, Tamariki were encouraged to think about what we could make using these resources. After taking a vote it was decided that we would attempt to build a dragon.

Through this process, Tamariki have experienced what it means to make a plan, organise the tools required, and learnt new craft skills like using the glue gun safely, and paper mâché.
Project work supports the learning of skills for school where Tamariki collaborate as part of a group towards a common goal, communicate their ideas and listen to others, as well as think through actions and tasks before beginning.

Our Dragon projects still continues and tamariki are eagerly talking about how to add a tail, and where it will go when it is finished!
