Ahoy, me Hearties
Avast ye. Pirates have descended on Active Explorers Richmond!
During the past couple of months our tamariki have not only been dressing up as pirates, but they’ve also transformed the Active Explorers Richmond boat into a fantastical pirate ship. They’ve made their own swords, engaged in friendly sword fights – and they’ve even walked the plank!
As centre manager Karmin Marchbanks points out, pretend play offers invaluable learning opportunities for tamariki.
“This kind of play supports children’s social, emotional, language and thinking skills,” she says. “Throughout these experiences tamariki actively engage in turn taking, problem solving and communication as well as using their imaginations.”
All vital skills for pirates and preschoolers.
