Our Olympic Games
Our Tamariki had an amazing two full weeks of Olympic games! We started off with an opening ceremony and torch baring and then held different sports events each day.
The tamariki learned all about giving it a go, managing feelings during winning or losing, resilience, perseverance and challenging their physical abilities.
In the process we learned about the nations of the world. During our medal ceremonies we played the national anthem in both English and te reo as well as some of the official Olympic music from the present to past Olympic games in different host countries.
The tamariki were able to make connecting links to the wider world as they interacted with giant flags from some of the nations that compete in the Olympics including Samoa, Australia, France, Wales, New Zealand, South Africa and Dutch flags. The tamariki posed next to the ones they felt a connection with.
We also watched clips of real Olympic athletes before we attempted our own version of the sport and discovered our strengths (sometimes as a surprise).
At Active Explorers Tai Tapu we enjoy celebrating special events and occasions out in the community. This provides new learning opportunities for the tamariki who not only learn about the Olympics and cultures of the world but may discover a new passion or skill.
