Ball Skills and Teamwork

Ball skills and team work

We were very lucky to have such a beautiful and sunny day! We started off with practicing our kicking, rolling and throwing skills through a variety of tasks and resources to support. The tamariki got into teams, with each team having an appointed leader. This provided the tamariki with opportunities to develop their communication skills, this enabled them to support, empower and encourage each other and they also were able to demonstrate leadership and collaboration skills. The tamariki then had a race against the other teams to throw, catch and kick the balls into the vaccuum hoses, hula hoops and also bowls! They needed to work together and race against the clock to see who could complete these tasks first. "Go Archie go!" said Freddie Horton.

Lastly, to finish off the session, we played a game called treasure ball where kaiako Bella hid some balls around the outdoor environment. The tamariki worked together in groups of five to find the treasure and see how fast and effeciently they could use their observation skills! After some peeking and turning around to watch kaiako Bella, the tamariki got underway to seek out the treasure.
